Manchester City Games

The Manchester project has to be one of TSG’s proudest moments as it saw the birth of the TSG HeavyDeck solution into the sporting industry and put us onto the path that’s taken us to where we are today. 2009 saw in the first ever Great CityGames in Manchester and TSG installing its very first temporary IAAF accredited running track on Deansgate in the heart of the City Centre.

The Great CityGames provides an extremely unique opportunity to see top athletes from across the globe compete in an urban environment and 2009 also saw Usain Bolt run the fastest ever time for a flying 150m dash @ 14.35seconds.

A variety of other great athletes have since been a part of the games including Yohan Blake AKA the Beast, Jess Ennis and Greg Rutherford. The event works on an exceptional premise – ‘taking the sport to the people’ and draws crowds up to 20,000 to see some of the world’s best athletes compete including Olympic, World Championship and European Championship medalists.

Not only have the names developed in the previous years though but so has the event itself, now offering a variety of sporting disciplines including the 200m running track, long jump, shot put and pole vault.

So why not make your way down to Deansgate next year and not only get close to the action but see us and some world class athletes in action – and best of all it is completely free to spectate and no tickets are required.

Following on from its great success at the London 2012 Games, Horseguards Parade, London has recently seen another great achievement as the icon location hosted the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games.

The Structure Group were more than pleased to part of this great event and went in with their tried and tested solution to deliver a 150m running track, long jump, pole vault and shot put facilities.

Pole vault world record holder Renaud Lavillenie, Olympic and world 100m gold medallist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, world 110m hurdles champion David Oliver and Olympic 100m hurdles champion Sally Pearson all set foot in Horseguards for the event among the many other international stars to line-up on the track and field.
This is exactly the type of event and use TSG is proud that its product can deliver. With careful planning and experience in this area we are able to provide a cost effective, temporary solution that engages not just a group of interested people but a city.

TSG has a sustainable system in place that can only deliver great events but inspire future generations.

Ice Rink Cassette Deck

TSG’s cassette system offers a lightweight decking solution (up to 10kN/m2) that works on the same self-levelling leg system as the HeavyDeck solution and can negate the use of any standard scaffolding. The system is extremely fast to install, hand built and excellent for busy city centres and other locations that have restricted access.

The cassette deck system comes in 1m x 2m boards and can easily be installed by a small team of operatives. The use of TSG’s self levelling leg system then reduces the install time significantly and allows full access under the deck. This can be very useful for the production side of things and can also help with the likes of storage or merchandising dependant on the location and design. As well as the reduction in time speak laying out the deck, TSG’s leg system can be built up to 4m high something that scaffolding will very much struggle with.

The cassette deck system has been used extensively by TSG on a vast number of sites within the seasonal / temporary ice rink industry for over 10 years’ now. During this time TSG has faced and overcome a number of challenges and has developed a range of skills. Our logistics team, project managers and operatives have been with us all the way and can offer a resolution for any potnetial problem.
