TSG | The Structure Group – About

Company Overview

The Structure Group is a world leading supplier of temporary decking solutions and modular buildings.

The company was forged around its leading product, the TSG HeavyDeck solution. The steel framed, panel system boasts a weight loading capacity of up to 20kN/m2  and allows TSG to specialise in the design, install and provision of temporary stadium conversions, sporting arenas, showrooms, grandstands and various other sporting applications and temporary structures.

The Structure Group’s HeavyDeck solution was used extensively during the London 2012 Olympic Games, simultaneously installing over 30,000m2  of decking across three separate venues. Including the temporary Equestrian Arena located at Greenwich Park, the largest venues outside of the Olympic Park.

TSG has since completed the first, IAAF approved stadium conversion at Scotland’s National Stadium, Hampden Park for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014. In order to do so, the first eight rows of seating was removed and the temporary decking raised the field of play approximately 2m in the air to allow space for a 440m running track which was used throughout the games. TSG installed over 16,500m2  of decking in just under 6 weeks.

We are fully committed to providing a truly sustainable solution to major sporting events and the events industry on the whole. We are also fully ISO: 9001, 14001, 20121 compliant and put exceptional H&S procedures in place.

History

Around ten years ago ‘The Structure Group’, previously known as ‘Majestic Marquees’ became an appointed supplier for Tesco’s and was commissioned to design and install, a number of large, temporary structures to act as temporary stores. These were typically situated within the car parks of existing stores during their refurbishments and required an extremely fast installation time in order to be cost effective – Tesco’s calculations at the time showed that during the refurb they would lose on average £1,400 / car parking space / day.

Just before being appointed Majestic (TSG) began to develop a temporary decking solution in order to rapidly increase the installation time on these projects. However, the decking solution required a substantial weight loading capacity in order to enable the use of quick shelf-stacking methods. These methods included the likes of forklifts and pallet trucks and once the decking system was finalised we saw the birth of an early marked ‘HeavyDeck’.

Once Majestic (TSG) had developed its very own heavy-duty decking solution we soon began to explore other applications for the system and decided that temporary sporting applications and modular structures were where the future lay.

Then, in 2009 the world saw the first ever Great City Games, held in the centre of Manchester, with Usain Bolt making a stunning appearance running a world best time of 14.35seconds, which would be known as the fastest 150m dash a human had ever run.

Beginning to see great successes in its movement into sporting applications, 2010 then saw the death of ‘Majestic Marquee’s and the birth of ‘TSG | The Structure Group’ who began discussions with the IOC for work at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. By 2011, a number of projects were being implemented in order to test the performance of the deck relevant to the equestrian discipline. As a result of the initial test events, TSG went back to the drawing board to develop an even more heavy-duty and improved solution.

The end result, the invention of TSG’s latest model the Super HeavyDeck. The new panels measure in at 7.5m x 2.5m and have the ability to take twice the load, up to 20kN/m2  which was more than enough to facilitate the 850kg horses competing on top.

In 2012, The Structure Group put the new system to the test and was a major part of the games, simultaneously installing over 30,000m2  of TSG HeavyDeck across three separate venues. Since its work in London, TSG has moved on to successfully implement; over 16,500m2  of HeavyDeck within Hampden Park for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, installed a variety of temporary buildings and hospitality units at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2014, continued to be a key part of the Great City Games which has since hosted the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games in Horseguards Parade and deliver high-quality and reliable temporary ice rinks across the UK.

TSG’s HeavyDeck solution has an endless variety of applications, it is a tried and tested system with an excellent track record and a team behind it that are always willing to go the extra mile.
